The Residents Association of Mount Pleasant (RAMP) is a non-profit organization that requests new development proposals follow the development regulations set out in the Mount Pleasant Community Plan (PDF 3.3MB) and Vancouver City Guidelines.
Information on our first development watch cause which we feel directly counters these Plans and Guidelines, “2010-2011 rezoning of Kingsway and Broadway”, is coming soon.
We will have links to the development proposal as well as the City of Vancouver’s website where you can view community feedback. We will be providing all the information you need to make up your own mind but will also be driving the key messages we feel are in tune with our community.
If you are part of the community, and you don’t feel like you are well represented, we encourage you to come to our meetings an have your say!
Please, check back here weekly, we will constantly be updating. If you are new, we encourage you to read posts on our issues from oldest to newest. Key information on what we’ve discussed in meetings will also be available for review.

Hello RAMP. Although we are on different sides of the issue I am glad to see that there are people out there who care about development as I do. As a resident and business owner in Mount Pleasant I have been actively involved in the yes side of the debate ob the proposed tower.
I would like to chat with you anytime about your objections to the rezoning. We can meet at my cafe GENE at Main and Kingsway.
Perhaps we know each other already. Who are you? Where do you live?
Regards,
Gideon James
Hi Gideon.
RAMP would love the opportunity to have a discussion, and we will gladly take you up on your offer to meet and discuss these issues. Business owners are very much part of our community, especially independent stores such as yourself.
It may be best if you attend the Town Hall meeting we are hosting on the 19th of June, we will be giving a brief talk and then opening up the floor to people who want to speak to the issue. (for or against)
You can catch us at the end of the meeting if you want to to set aside more time to discuss.
hope to see you there… RAMP
Correction… 29th of June, at St. Patricks Hall (2881 Main Street, Vancouver south west entrance) at 7pm – 9pm
I would like to speak at the June 29th Meeting. (against) Who do I contact to sign up?
Cheers
Jean
We will be using most of the time on the 29th to open up the floor for everyone to have their say. Just put your hand up when its time.
Our introduction will be important as we will be giving a brief history of what was discussed at the last meeting, the forming of our community association, what events have taken place and the action steps everyone can take to help get our message to City Hall.
While this is a forum for us to meet our community and vent our thoughts, it is still recommended that you take a look at our TAKE ACTION article to make sure that your views are on the city councilors radar. (In the end its their vote that decides whether this application is approved)
I recently worked on a campaign to prevent a historic building from being demolished be property developers, the campaign was incredibly effective at rallying the local residents against the new development and the building and it’s area and now safe. Take a look:

I support your quest to fight against The Rize
I am speaker no 148 on the speakers’ list.
Do you know the purchase price of the three parcels for which rezoning is being sought?
I was unable to attend last night. Was this information been put forward by any of the speakers to date, and, if so, what figures were given?
Thanks,
Gayle
Yes, we have the details for the purchase prices. These are public records from the Land Titles Office. There are four parcels that were purchased in total and are all owned by Rize Alliance (Kingsway) Properties Ltd.:$2,758,000 1999.08.20 - 221 E 10th (180 Kingsway)
$1,425,000 2007.03.30 - 236 E. Broadway
$3,400,000 2007.05.23 - 246 E. Broadway
$2,730,000 2010.10.22 - 228 E. Broadway
One other note: there was a change in ownership of the company BC0589948 on Jan 17, 2005, and a company name change on Jan 18, 2005 (previously known as Narland Properties (Kingsway) Ltd.).
Hi RAMP members. My classmate and I are architecture students currently working on an Urban Design studio focussing on the Kingsway, Broadway & Main interface. We would very much like to meet with your members (hopefully in the next week) and get your input on what aspects of the area are important to your group.
If you could please email me back with possible dates and times that would work for a representative for your group.
Regards,
Neil
There’s a cleaning in the offing. Notice that today the CBC radio is questioning the use and need of high rises because the young adult population is moving to the suburbs because they can’t and won’[t pay the exorbitant prices that are being bandied about by the developers. They are looking to see what Vancouverites want in the way of affordable housing of the right size for families to live comfortably in the area. Also in the news is Meggs talking about getting rid of the overhead transportation so that they can put development of Green Space and housing into the mix. This would join the disjointed communities that are present in the region now. Lying piece of shit.
Hi there: We met at the Future of Vancouver session on Saturday. I thought you might be interested in my take on the meeting at http://jaksview3.wordpress.com/2012/10/21/the-future-of-vancouver/
Let’s stay in touch.

Hi there,
My name is Faye and I’m a social work student at UBC. I am currently working on a group project which is a community assessment of Mount Pleasant. I am tasked with assessing the business culture within the area. After speaking with Libby Davis’ office I became aware of the Rize opposition and proposed Kingsgate Mall redevelopment. I would love the opportunity to ask you a few questions on these issues. It shouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes of your time. These can be done by email or over the phone, whatever is more convenient for you.
Thank you,
Faye
Hello, I am a member of a group of more than 50 residents in the Garden Park neighbourhood that are affected in a similar manner as your Mt. Pleasant group by the City’s planning process. At our meeting last night we discussed the benefits of reaching out to other groups that are under the pressure of a short timeline for providing input in the planning process. We would like to discuss the possibility of co-ordinating efforts to include those affected in Marpole, Norquay, and the West end.
I look forward to receiving your comments on this idea.
Best regards,
Philip Hill
