Apparent flaws in City staff report on major tower rezoning (Rize Alliance, at Kingsway & Broadway): “Ethics of visualization” (in Council Jan 31, 9:30 am)

Official article on cityhallwatch

This rendering was built using the official elevation drawings available on the Rezoning website.

Laypersons way of determining the Rize rendering is in fact wrong

  1. open the official elevation diagram from the cities rezoning website:
    http://vancouver.ca/commsvcs/planning/rezoning/applications/228-246ebway/documents/elev2.pdf
  2. Note: The angle of the last vertical column. It’s not close to a 45 degree angle
  3. Look at the same column in the Rize rendering. note how its angle looks close to 45 degrees, which would indicate a compression of the building.
  4. look at the super imposed rendering of the 3d model built with a program that takes those official measurments. Note how the angle of that last column looks more inline with the offical rendering

About RAMP Vancouver

The Residents Association Mount Pleasant (RAMP) is a non-profit coalition of volunteers who recognize the unique character of the community and strive to maintain this special neighbourhood. Recent rezoning applications threaten to significantly alter the complexion of Mount Pleasant, with large departures in height and density from currently permitted zoning. RAMP seeks to educate members of the public on the true impacts of proposed spot rezoning, and to work on maintaining a livable, affordable and human scale community.
